I always get sucked into the bead stores in the garment district. I have wasted hours there and bought quite a few special beads I hadn’t the slightest idea what I was going to do with. For Christmas, my boyfriend took me out bead shopping to get something special that I would actually finish. My first selection was a big fat string of Pyrite (Fool’s Gold) chunks. I found a great magnetic clasp that went perfectly, and knew exactly the thread I wanted, neon yellow rope. I was so happy with how it turned out, that we are now in a bead phase.
What I did not expect was that my boyfriend would find the bead store just as enticing as I did. He wanted me to make him a rosary bead necklace made out of skulls.
The same skull beads, in white had actually been one of my long ago bead impulse buys, so I finished mine as well. I used a really nice gunmetal clasp and two different colors of waxed thread, light green and tan. In between each skull is an iridescent, rainbow polka dot bead (subtler than it sounds), all knotted in between. I think it gave it just the right feel.
